GetDare.com is Gone — Here’s Where to Go Next | GamesExpose
In Memoriam · 2026

GetDare.com is gone. Here’s where to go next.

After twenty-one years and 350,000 members, the dare community quietly closed its doors on New Year’s. Five places that pick up where it left off — for posters, players, and everyone in between.

For a lot of people, the way they found out was the same. They opened a tab on the first or second of January, expecting the same forum that had been there for two decades, and instead they got a goodbye banner. No countdown, no warning email, no “we’re moving here.” Just gone. Even the moderators didn’t know it was coming.

GetDare.com had been running since 2005. Twenty-one years, give or take a few server migrations. Three hundred and fifty thousand registered members by late 2025. Truth threads, dare threads, AMA threads, story threads. KinkTalk on the side for the heavier stuff. A karma system that actually worked, a verification system for partner exchanges, and a tone that — if you found the right corner of it — felt like home for a particular kind of person who didn’t have a lot of other homes online.

And then the owner pulled the plug. Subscriptions were reportedly still being processed in the days leading up to the shutdown. Members lost their threads, their connections, their archives — none of which were exportable on the way out. The community is, understandably, not handling it well.

About this article. GamesExpose is our site, and yes, you’ll see it on the list below. But if you’re here because you’re actually mourning GetDare and looking for the closest thing to it, the most honest answer isn’t us — it’s Kinky Wonderland, founded by an ex-GetDare admin and where most of the diaspora actually went. We’ve ranked it #2 because it deserves to be there. Read the whole list, then pick the one that fits how you actually used GetDare.

What actually happened

The short version, pieced together from community posts on Kinky Wonderland and elsewhere over January and February 2026:

  • December 31, 2025 GetDare and KinkTalk are operating normally. Members log on, post threads, schedule dare exchanges for the new year. Subscriptions are still being collected.
  • January 1–2, 2026 The site goes dark. A short goodbye banner replaces the homepage. KinkTalk gets a brief email to subscribers a few hours before going down. Active moderators report being given no notice whatsoever.
  • January 3–10, 2026 Community migration begins. Reddit threads, Discord servers and X posts point displaced members toward Kinky Wonderland, Secret Dare, and a handful of smaller forums. People scramble to recover their old content via Yandex cache and the Internet Archive.
  • Now The domain is still registered (through 2027) but parked. There is no announced successor, no archive release, and no indication the owner — known in the community as “Depp” — plans to bring it back. The community has, by and large, moved on.

The most painful part for a lot of long-term members wasn’t the loss of the site itself. It was the loss of connections — the messages, the dare-partner histories, the multi-year threads with people they’d genuinely come to know. None of which were portable. There was no “download your data” option, no thirty-day grace period, nothing.

Picking a replacement: what to actually look for

Here’s the honest reality. There isn’t a one-to-one replacement for GetDare. There can’t be — it was twenty-one years of accumulated community, and you don’t rebuild that in a quarter. What you can do is figure out which part of GetDare you actually used, and pick the site that does that part best.

People used GetDare for at least four different things:

  • The forum and the people. Threads, replies, ongoing relationships, the karma economy.
  • The dare exchange. Finding a dom or sub, verified swaps, accountability systems.
  • The reading. Other people’s dare reports, exhibitionist diaries, story threads.
  • The doing. Actually rolling dares and playing them out, solo or with a partner.

Each of the five sites below covers at least one of those well. None covers all four. So the question is: which two or three of those did you really come for?

For Doers Browser Games Solo + Couples + Groups Free

GamesExpose — for the “doing” half of GetDare

If your favourite part of GetDare was reading dare threads and then never quite getting around to actually doing them, this is for you. GamesExpose is a games site, not a forum — about twenty playable browser games that take the dare-and-reveal mechanic GetDare members were always trying to script in plain text and turns it into something you actually press buttons on.

Strip 2048, Strip Chess, Wheel of Fortune, Memory, Blur, Higher or Lower, plus a casino set with blackjack, slots and plinko. You can upload your own photos and they drive the reveals, so the personalisation that GetDare leaned on (your dare, your photos, your specifics) is built into the games themselves. The Groups feature handles the multiplayer side — set a room, invite a partner, run forfeit-based rounds — which is the closest GamesExpose comes to GetDare’s two-person dare-exchange dynamic.

Not a forum. Not a place to post. But the closest thing to actually playing the dares you used to read about.

Kinky Wonderland — the spiritual successor

This is where most of the GetDare diaspora actually went, and there’s a reason. Kinky Wonderland was founded in early 2025 by Butterfly, an ex-GetDare moderator who was — by her own account on the site — pushed out about nine months before the shutdown. When GetDare went dark, she was already running a forum that looked, felt, and operated very much like the old place. The migration was almost organic.

It’s a forum in the GetDare mould. Truth and dare threads, member profiles, ongoing relationships, monthly community quests, an actual moderation team that announces itself. Familiar names from GetDare have been showing up since January 2026. It is not as big as GetDare was at its peak — that took two decades to build — but it has the right shape, and it’s growing.

If what you miss is the people and the threads, this is the honest answer. Go here first.

For Dare Exchange Verification System Free

Secret Dare — for the partner-exchange side

Secret Dare has been openly positioning itself as a GetDare alternative for a while, and unlike most of those it actually has the mechanics to back it up. The headline feature is dare verification: when you and another member agree to a dare swap, the platform tracks completion, which means fake profiles and flakes get filtered out fast. There’s also a member search, video chat, and a built-in truth-game tool.

It’s smaller than Kinky Wonderland and considerably less forum-y — more “tool with social features” than “community with tools.” If the part of GetDare you cared about was specifically the dom/sub matching and the karma economy that came with it, Secret Dare’s verification system is the closest direct port.

The right pick if you came to GetDare to find people, not to post threads.

Static Dare Format Anonymous Free

Faproulette — closest to the dice-dare format

Faproulette is what GetDare’s old “dice dare” threads always wanted to be: a numbered grid, a built-in roller, and a community-uploaded catalog. Open a roulette card, hit “roll,” do whatever the resulting number says. There’s a global “Roll” button that respects your tag filters, plus thousands of community-submitted roulettes across every kink the catalog covers.

Honest caveats. It is very much an archive-plus-randomiser, not a game and not a community. The UI is famously confusing, the ad load is heavy, and the mechanic hasn’t evolved in years. But for the specific GetDare niche of “I want to roll a dice and do whatever the number says,” nothing else gets closer to that exact format.

Pick this if you came to GetDare for the dice threads specifically. Otherwise, probably not.

For Couples Polished UX Free + Paid Decks

Wheel of Foreplay — the couples-friendly pick

If GetDare for you meant “things to do with my partner this weekend” rather than “ongoing online dare relationships,” Wheel of Foreplay is the cleanest landing spot. It’s a polished dare and prompt wheel with curated activity packs sorted by intensity, focus, duration, and theme. The free tier is generous, paid card decks add range. Mainstream-friendlier UX than anything else on this list, which makes it the easiest one to introduce a new partner to.

It is unapologetically a couples tool. There is no community, no posting, no exchange. Just a wheel, your phone, and someone in the room with you.

Not a GetDare replacement so much as a better fit for the couples-specific use case GetDare was never really built for.

The painful part wasn’t losing the site. It was losing twenty years of conversations, friendships, and dare-partner histories that nobody got to back up first. — Common refrain across the GetDare diaspora, January 2026

Trying to recover your old GetDare content?

Two things are still working as of this writing, both of which the community has been quietly using since January:

  • Yandex cache. Search site:getdare.com [thread title] on yandex.com — the Russian search engine kept its cache of GetDare longer than Google did, and members have been recovering individual threads this way. Move quickly; cached pages eventually drop.
  • Internet Archive (Wayback Machine). Public threads were partially crawled. Anything behind a login (blogs, profile pages, private messages) was not. Search the URL of the thread you remember at web.archive.org.

If you had connections you’d like to find again, the most reliable path right now is to register on Kinky Wonderland and post a callout — a lot of people are doing exactly that, and the community has been good about reconnecting old GetDare contacts.

The thirty-second version

If you skipped the rankings (we won’t tell), here are the five sites in one paragraph. GamesExpose if you want to actually play instead of just read. Kinky Wonderland if you came for the people and the threads — this is the honest spiritual successor. Secret Dare if you came for partner-finding and verification. Faproulette if the dice-dare grids were your thing. Wheel of Foreplay if you’re a couple looking for date-night material.

None of them is GetDare. Nothing is going to be. But the people who made GetDare what it was are mostly on Kinky Wonderland now, and the format itself has evolved — into games, tools, and tighter little communities — in five different directions. Pick the one that matches what you actually came for.

Frequently asked questions

Why did GetDare shut down?

The short answer is: nobody knows for sure. According to community posts on Kinky Wonderland, the owner — a longtime developer the community calls “Depp” — gave no warning to anyone, including active moderators. Speculation centres on burnout (he reportedly mentioned in 2024 that he wasn’t sure he could continue funding the site) and possibly financial pressure. There’s been no official statement.

Will GetDare come back?

The domain is registered through January 2027, but it’s parked with no indication of revival. There’s been no announcement of a successor, no archive release, no community handover. As of April 2026, the realistic answer is no — and the community has moved on accordingly.

What happened to KinkTalk?

KinkTalk, GetDare’s BDSM-focused sister site, went dark within hours of GetDare itself. Subscribers got a brief email a few hours before the shutdown — slightly more notice than GetDare members got, but not enough to back anything up. It’s also gone with no announced successor.

Can I recover my old threads, dares, or messages?

Public threads can sometimes be recovered through Yandex’s cache or the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine. Anything behind a login — your private messages, your blog posts, your dare-exchange history — was not crawled and is, as far as we can tell, permanently gone. Move fast on the cached content; it doesn’t last forever.

How do I find people I knew on GetDare?

The two most active recovery paths right now: post a callout thread on Kinky Wonderland (a lot of GetDare regulars have already migrated and check the new-member sections), and search X/Twitter for any GetDare-related username they may have posted publicly. Some members also list Discord handles in their old archived profiles if you can find them via Yandex.

Is any of these a true one-to-one replacement?

No, and probably nothing will be — twenty-one years of community is not the kind of thing that rebuilds in a quarter. But Kinky Wonderland comes the closest in spirit, and the other four sites cover specific corners of what GetDare did better than GetDare itself ever did. Pick by use case, not by trying to find “the new GetDare.”

Want to actually play instead of just post?

If “doing the dares” was always more your speed than reading them, this is the lowest-friction starting point we’ve got. Strip 2048 takes about four seconds to load.
